James Gillespie’s High School –Transition Arrangements

Dear Parent/Carer,

I am delighted to be contacting you with final arrangements for the P7 three day visit from 16th to 18th June. This is an exciting time for you and your child and we hope to make the transition as smooth and enjoyable as possible.

So, a reminder that we have an information session for parents/carers here at our Lauderdale Street site on Monday 15th June at 7.00pm when you will meet some staff, learn a little more about the transition work we have been doing and be able to ask any questions you might have before your child joins us the next day.

The start time for each day of the transition visit will be our normal start time of 8.40am and your child should make their way on Tuesday 16th to our pupil entrance on Lauderdale Street where they will be greeted by staff and our friendly S6 helpers. Each day the pupils will finish at 3.15pm.

With regard to lunch arrangements can you please provide your child with a packed lunch for each day. We have outside spaces including picnic benches where these can be eaten. However, if the weather is unkind or your child would prefer we also have lovely indoor spaces designated for eating lunch. If your child is entitled to a free school lunch, a packed lunch will be provided.

Can I also take this opportunity to remind you that we would prefer your child not to wear school uniform during the visit. They will, however, require PE kit and a change of footwear for when they have physical education. We will let them know on Monday which day this applies to them.

I look forward to meeting your child initially at the Transition Festival at Meadowbank on the Monday morning and I look forward to meeting you on the Monday evening.

Please do not hesitate to contact me should you require any further information.

Yours faithfully,

Hazel Kinnear
Depute Head Teacher, Pupil Support
